The Mexican Navy (SEMAR) reported on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, the arrest of Yajaira Berenice Sánchez Castellanos, alias “La China,” identified as a suspected member of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and a perpetrator of violence in the municipality of Manzanillo, Colima.

According to the institution belonging to the Armed Forces, the woman is accused of participating in acts of extreme violence, including executions, dismemberments, and drug trafficking in the port region.

The arrest was made during a surveillance operation carried out on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, in the La Joya II neighborhood, in the Santiago district, as part of the “Colima Seguro” Security Strategy, implemented by SEMAR in coordination with the State Public Security Secretariat and the Colima State Police.

Mexican Navy (SEMAR) personnel located “La China” on a motorcycle without license plates, speeding with a passenger. When ordered to stop, both the woman and her companion attempted to flee, skidding the motorcycle. One of them escaped, but Sánchez Castellanos was apprehended at the scene.

During the arrest, authorities seized 36 doses and 44.51 grams of methamphetamine, cash, communications equipment, and a motorcycle without license plates used for transportation in the area. The woman was turned over to the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPF) for further investigation.

According to the investigation, “La China” was in charge of the top floor of building 16 of the CROM (Regional Confederation of Mexican Workers) in Manzanillo, which served as an operations center, as well as a site for holding and executing victims.

Sánchez Castellanos is also linked to a criminal organization headed by Giancarlo “N,” alias “Raptor,” and Francisco “N,” alias “Chacalo,” responsible for drug trafficking and homicides in the municipalities of Colima and Villa de Álvarez.

The Mexican Navy (SEMAR) detailed that the Colima Seguro Strategy includes the deployment of 1,000 naval personnel and 123 tactical vehicles to reinforce security in the state, considered one of the most affected by organized crime violence.
